THE house met. Present the same members as
on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday
were read.
The supplement to an act, entitled, An act to direct
descents, the bill to authorise and empower
the levy court of Cæcil county to assess and levy annually a sum
of money for the support
of John Maloy, and the resolution in favour of Edward Norwood, were sent
to the senate by the
clerk.
The bill to explain the law respecting hawkers and peddlers,
was read the first time and ordered
to lie on the table.
Mr. John Buchanan, a delegate returned for Washington
county, appeared, and after qualifying
in the mode prescribed by the constitution and form of government, and
taking the oath to
support the constitution of the United States, took his seat in the house.
A petition from George Chocke, of Harford county, praying
a return of £. 2 4 1, paid into
the treasury, with interest from the time of payment, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr.
Ayres, Mr. Ridgely and Mr. Bond, to consider and report thereon.
A petition from Robert Amos, of Harford county, praying
a return of £. 3 3 4, paid into the
treasury, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. McComas, Mr. Ayres and
Mr. Street, to
consider and report thereon.
A petition from Anne Gross, of the city of Baltimore,
praying a divorce, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. Bond, Mr. Ridgely, Mr. A. Buchanan, Mr. Digges and
Mr. Brome, to consider
and report thereon.
A petition from John Button, of Dorchester county, praying
the levy court may be authorised
to levy a sum of money on said county for his support, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr.
Keene, Mr. S. Frazier and Mr. McPherson, to consider and report thereon.
A memorial from Thomas Gist, of Baltimore county, counter
to the petition of Thomas
Owings, was preferred and read.
The report on the memorial of the commissioners of the
city of Washington was read the
second time, and the question put, That the house assent to the resolution
therein contained?
