supplement to the act respecting the settlers on the reserved lands westward of Fort Cumberland; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table. Mr. Barroll, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report: THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Richard J. Orme, of Montgomery county, report, that they have attentively examined into the allegations set forth in said petition, and find, that the said Richard J. Orme obtained a patent on an escheat warrant for a tract of land whereof a certain Alice Smith died seized, for the want of heirs, and that the said lands were valued at fifty-five pounds six shillings and one penny halfpenny, the two thirds of which said sum was paid into the treasury before the obtaining the said patent; that upon the execution of said warrant, and a certificate being returned agreeably to law, a certain Ozias Offutt and Martin Fisher, two creditors of the said Alice Smith, entered a caveat in the land-office against a patent issuing, and that the said Orme, in order to prevent any delay in procuring said patent, paid their respective claims, amounting to the sum of thirty-five pounds thirteen shillings and nine-pence, which they would have been entitled to have received of the state of Maryland out of the composition money paid as aforesaid, and which last aforesaid sum your committee thinks ought to be repaid to the said Richard J. Orme by the state of Maryland, and thinking his case not provided for by law, beg leave to recommend the following resolution: RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to Richard J. Orme, or order, the sum of thirty-five pounds thirteen shillings and nine-pence current money, being the amount of the sum paid by him to persons having claims against a certain Alice Smith, whose land the said Orme escheated, and which he has obtained a patent for. Mr. Magruder, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report: THE committee to whom was referred the petition of the inhabitants of the town of Williamsburgh and its vicinity, in Montgomery county, for authorising a lottery for the purpose of erecting a school-house in said town, beg leave to report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion that a law ought to pass agreeably to the prayer thereof. By order, J. S. BETTON, clk. Which was read. Mr. Haynes, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower the levy court of Cæcil county to assess and levy annually a sum of money for the support of John Maloy; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table. The report on the petition of sundry inhabitants of Lower Monocacy was read the second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto. ORDERED, That the committee appointed on the said petition prepare and bring in the same. Mr. McPherson, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act, entitled, An act to ascertain the allowance to jurymen and witnesses of the general court, and the several county and orphan courts in this state; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table. The supplement to an act, entitled, An act to direct descents, was read the second time, and passed. On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to punish persons who illegally exercise certain offices under the government of this state. ORDERED, That Mr. Taney, Mr. Cottman and Mr. J. T. Worthington, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same. Mr. Parnham has leave of absence. Mr. C. Frazier, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report: THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Samuel Turbutt Wright, clerk of Queen-Anne's county, beg leave to report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion the facts stated in the said petition are true, and that the petitioner is justly entitled to the relief prayed for; they therefore submit the following resolution: RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the eastern shore release unto Samuel Turbutt Wright, clerk of Queen-Anne's county, all the interest, (excepting six per cent.) which stands charged against the said Samuel Turbutt Wright on said treasurer's books, and that the said treasurer credit the existing accounts against said Wright with all the interest over and above the six per cent. which said Wright has heretofore paid to the said treasurer; and that all process on judgments already obtained, or may hereafter be obtained, by the state of Maryland against said Wright, be suspended until the ---- day of ----, eighteen hundred and one.
