VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1799.
A representation from the levy court of Prince-George's
county, praying they may be authorised
to pull down the repository of the records of the register of wills, and
sell the materials of
the same for the purpose of erecting a gaol, was preferred, read, and referred
to Mr. Duckett,
Mr. Addison and Mr. Turner, to consider and report thereon.
The report on the petition of William A. Needham, was
read the second time and the resolution
therein contained assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to authorise
and empower the levy court of Anne-Arundel
county, at their discretion, to assess and levy a sum of money to repair
the buildings of
the free-school of said county, or to dispose of so much of the timber
on the land belonging to
said school as will be necessary to complete the repairs. ORDERED,
That Mr. Harwood, Mr.
Worthington and Mr. Brogden, be a committee to prepare and bring in the
same.
A petition from Samuel Clayton, and others, constables
of Talbot county, praying an increase
of fees, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Key, Mr. C. Frazier,
Mr. Swearingen, Mr. P. Thomas,
Mr. Orrell, Mr. Dunn and Mr. Taney, to consider and report thereon.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill for the adjournment
of Prince-George's county
court. ORDERED, That Mr. Key, Mr. Addison and Mr. Duckett, be a committee
to prepare
and bring in the same.
Mr. Key, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for
the adjournment of Prince-George's county court; which was read the first
and second time by
especial order, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county,
praying an act may pass for laying out
a road from Thomas Underhill's mill to intersect a public road leading
from John Neale's to John
Cox's between Amos Jones's and Heary Richardson's, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr.
Street, Mr. McComas and Mr. Bond, to consider and report thereon.
Mr. Sappington, from the committee, brings in and
delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An
act to prevent swine and geese going at large in Liberty-town, in Frederick
county; which was
read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Potter, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition
of Sarah Culbreth, of Caroline county,
report, that they have examined the papers relating to said petition,
together with the plot and
certificate thereto annexed, and have reason to believe that the facts
stated in said petition are
true, they are therefore of opinion that the prayer of the petitioner ought
to be granted, and
that leave be given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto.

pursuant thereto. ORDERED, That the committee appointed on the said
petition prepare and

Mr. Key, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Anne
Burnes, widow, and Marcia
Burnes, daughter and heiress of Daivd Burnes, of the city of Washington,
have taken the same
into consideration, and from knowledge and information of the truth of
the facts therein stated,
the committee are of opinion that a law should pass, authorising a trustee
or trustees to execute
conveyances for all lots sold by David Burnes in his life-time, and not
already conveyed, to any
person or persons entitled to have a conveyance thereof, on payment of
the principal and interest
of the purchase money, and not before; and also suggest the propriety of
passing a law, authorising
certain trustees to sell, not exceeding one fourth part of the lots in
said city of which said
Marcia is seized in fee, and which have not been heretofore sold.
All which is submitted to
the house.

be severally engrossed,
and have appointed Nicholas Hammond, William Hindman and Charles Goldsborough,
Esquires,
to join the gentlemen nominated by you for that purpose.
