prayed for; they therefore submit the
following resolution:
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay
to Philip Reed, of Kent county, or
order, the sum of fifty-four pounds one shilling and seven-pence, it being
the amount of his claim
against the state of Maryland, including interest up to the first of November,
seventeen hundred
and ninety-nine.

Which was read.
On motion, ORDERED, That the bill to settle and pay
the civil list, and other expences of civil
government, have a second reading on Wednesday next.
The bill to prevent assignees from suing by bill of
privilege or attachment of privileges, was
read the second time by especial order, and passed.
A petition from sundry inhabitants of Montgomery and
Prince-George's counties, praying an
act may pass for laying out a road through a part of Montgomery county,
in a direction from the
court-house of said county to intersect the line near the parish chapel,
and where the road in
Prince-George's county crosses the said line, was preferred, read, and
referred to Mr. Magruder,
Mr. Addison and Mr. Turner, to consider and report thereon.
A petition from the trustees of Hillsborough school,
in Caroline county, praying an annual
donation for the support of the said school, was preferred, read, and referred
to Mr. Potter,
Mr. Edmondson and Mr. Orrell, to consider and report thereon.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to make valid
certain writs issued by the clerks of
the several county courts within this state. ORDERED, That Mr. Turner,
Mr. Perry and Mr.
Key, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
Mr. Barroll, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker the report on the petition
of Thomas Berry and William Reed, as amended; which was read the first
and second time,
and the resolution therein contained assented to.
The bill to release the heirs, executors and administrators,
and the securities, of Charles Beckworth,
late of Montgomery county, deceased, from a contract therein mentioned,
was read the
second time, and passed.
The report on the petition of Charles Gassaway was read
the second time, concurred with,
and leave given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto. ORDERED, That
the committee appointed on
the said petition prepare and bring in the same.
A petition from Benjamin Dashiell, of Somerset county,
counter to the petition of Isaiah Dorman,
was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition
to which it is
counter.
Mr. Ambrose Geoghegan, Mr. James McClain and Mr. John
Cellar, three delegates returned
for Washington county, appeared, and after qualifying in the mode prescribed
by the constitution
and form of government, and taking the oath to support the constitution
of the United States,
took their seats in the house.
Mr. Wroth, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Sarah
and Anne Hynson, of Kent
county, report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and are
of opinion that the
prayer of the said petitioner ought not to be granted.

Mr. Digges, from the committee of elections and privileges,
brings in and delivers to the
speaker the following report:
THE committee of elections and privileges further report,
that it appears to them, from the
return of the sheriff of Washington county, that in obedience to a warrant
issued by the speaker
of the house of delegates, an election was held at the court-house of said
county on the twenty-seventh
of November, and that Ambrose Geoghegan, James McClain, John Cellar and
John Buchanan,
Esquires, were duly elected and returned delegates for said county to the
present general
assembly. All which is submitted.

Mr. Perry, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act
to make valid certain writs issued by the clerks of the several county
courts within this state;
which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Johonnot, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker the report of the
committee appointed to tax the costs on the memorial of Charles Ridgely,
of William, respecting
the Baltimore election; which was read the first and second time and concurred
with.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill providing
for the taking of testimony, and ascertaining
and paying of costs, in cases of disputed elections. ORDERED, That
Mr. Duckett, Mr. Buchanan
and Mr. Key, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill for the more
effectual collection of the county charges
in Allegany county. ORDERED, That Mr. Perry, Mr. Rice and Mr. Tomlinson,
be a committee
to prepare and bring in the same.
On motion, Leave given to bring in an additional supplement
to the act, entitled, An act to
regulate and discipline the militia of this state. ORDERED, That
Mr. J. Thomas, Mr. Gunby,
Mr. Taney, Mr. Brome and Mr. Parnham, be a committee to prepare and bring
in the same.
Mr. Hyland, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker the following report:
