By the COMMITTEE of CLAIMS. of Thomas Harwood, Esquire, treasurer of the western shore, and find, by an account settled by the committee of claims to the first day of November, 1798, there was a balance of 215,983 dollars 49 cents funded 6 per cent. stock, 259,126 dollars 87 cents funded 3 per cent. stock, 70,421 dollars 85 cents deferred 6 per cent. stock, and £. 30,808 4 51/2 specie, remaining in the treasury. That it appears to your committee, by the accounts of said treasurer, he hath received for escheats, caution and improvements in land certificates, £. 2977 7 2 specie; for confiscated property, 35 dollars 99 cents funded 6 per cent. stock, 30 dollars 54 cents deferred 6 per cent. stock, and £. 70 6 101/2 specie; for taxes under the act for establishing and securing the salary to the chancellor, £. 316 11 5 specie; for taxes under the act for the better administration of justice, £. 394 6 21/2 specie; for militia fines, £. 28 2 6 specie; for bonds taken for vacant land in Allegany county, £. 115 18 6 specie; from William Marbury, for the balance due from him on the auditor's books, £. 3635 12 6 specie; from the commissioners of the city of Washington, for dividends of interest on their bonds, £. 4500 0 0 specie; from Benjamin Harwood, trustee, for dividends of interest and principal on stock, £. 10094 17 8 specie; from John Shaw, for sundry articles belonging to the government-house, sold by him, £. 38 13 1 specie. That it appears to your committee, the said treasurer hath received from William Marbury, Esquire, agent, for confiscated property, £. 11 3 0 interest funded 6 per cent. stock, 17,457 dollars 84 cents funded 6 per cent. stock 5,206 dollars 29 cents deferred 6 per cent. stock, and £. 1371 5 5 specie; for taxes, 1450 dollars 79 cents funded 6 per cent. stock, and £. 142 4 10 specie; for bonds taken for money loaned, £. 276 7 3 specie; for bonds taken for open accounts, 82 dollars 80 cents funded 6 per cent. stock, and £. 12 4 0 specie; for bonds taken for Indian lands, £. 110 12 4 specie; for fines and forfeitures, £. 1586 1 9 specie; for marriage licences, £. 2127 13 5 specie; for ordinary and retailers licences, £. 3040 13 8 specie; and for taxes under the act for the better administration of justice, £. 532 10 4 specie. That it appears to your committee, by the accounts of the said treasurer, he hath paid the sum of £. 782 13 9 specie, agreeably to the resolutions of November session, 1797, in discharge of the emissions of June, 1780, and the certificates issued under the acts of assembly of this state, which emissions and certificates your committee have examined and cancelled; that it also appears the said treasurer hath paid away, from the first of November, 1798, to the first of November, 1799, the sum of £. 37530 0 61/2 specie; for all which payments have been produced to your committee the necessary vouchers and receipts; and that there remains in the treasury the sum of 229,144 dollars 80 cents funded 6 per cent. stock, 259,126 dollars 87 cents funded 3 per cent. stock. 75,658 dollars 68 cents deferred 6 per cent. stock, and the sum of £. 23866 19 01/4 specie; which sum specie is appropriated in the manner following, viz.
