CHAPTER 461.

AN ACT to authorize the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Kent
County, Maryland, to copy the general index for deeds and
mortgages, and to arrange said index under a different
system into a new and substantial book from the year 1842
to 1884, inclusive; to make a general index for chattel mort-
gages and bills of sale from the year 1880 to 1900, inclusive;
to make a general index for marriage licenses from the year
1800 to 1900, inclusive; to make a general index for all
equity proceedings, and to have Chancery Docket D. C. B.,
No. 1, rebound and repaired, and to copy the index in said
Chancery Docket.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Kent County be
and he is authorized and directed to copy the general index
for deeds and mortgages, and to arrange said index under a
different system into a new book from the year 1842 to 1884,
inclusive; and to make a general index for chattel mortgages
and bills of sale from the year 1880 to 1900, inclusive; and to
make a general index for magistrates' judgments from the
year 1885 to 1900, inclusive; and to make a general index for
marriage licenses from 1800 to 1900, inclusive; to make a
general index for all equity proceedings, and to index each
party to said proceedings, and to have Chancery Docket D. C.
B., No. 1, rebound and repaired, and to copy the index in
said docket; provided, that judges of the Circuit Court for
Kent County shall first certify to the Board of County Com-
missioners that said work is necessary to be done in order to
preserve the said records from destruction.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
of Kent County, Maryland, are required to levy on the assess-
able property of said county a sum sufficient to pay said clerk
such compensation as they may consider the work which the
clerk may perform, under the preceding section, to be worth one
cent for each ten words or figures so recopied and pro rata and
for recording and recopying, and five cents for each name in-
dexed, required by the aforegoing section; as also for the
necessary cost of rebinding records and general index books;
provided, that nothing shall be paid until the work provided
for under the preceding section shall be examined and approved
by the judge or judges of the Circuit Court for Kent County.
