SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 462.
AN ACT to repeal Section two of Chapter three hundred
and forty of the Laws of Maryland of eighteen hundred and
ninety-two, and to re-enact the same, with amendments.

Prevention of
Cruelty to
animals.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section two of Chapter three hundred and forty
of the Acts of Assembly of Maryland of eighteen hundred and
ninety-two be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted
as follows: Whenever a fine is imposed in any such case
by any court or justice of the peace, one- half thereof

To whom paid.

shall be paid to the Maryland Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals of Baltimore City, in case there shall be
no society of similar character in the county, city or town
where the offense shall have been committed, in which latter
event the said one-half of the fine shall be paid to the said
local society; and any officer of said society, or any society or
association for the prevention of cruelty to animals, duly
incorporated under the laws of this State, shall upon his own
view of any misdemeanor in relation to cruelty to animals
make arrests and bring before any magistrate or justice of the
peace offenders found violating the laws of this State in
relation to cruely to animals.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 463.

Trustees of
Union
Theological
Seminary in
Virginia.

AN ACT to give consent of the State of Maryland to the
purchase and acquisition by the Trustees of Union Theo-
logical Seminary in Virginia of certain land particularly
mentioned in Number 1460 Equity Proceedings, in the
Circuit Court for Montgomery County, as a Court of
Equity.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, On the 16th day of February, in the year 1897,
James H. Loughborough, assignee of a mortgage from Wil-
liam A. Wade, under a power of sale therein contained, sold
all of the property mentioned in said mortgage, dated the nth
