nor shall any enforced absence, with leave, on account of
sickness or death be deducted from the pay of any such officer
of police, policeman or detective, or from the twenty days'
leave, as herein provided for.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That this Act shall take effect from
the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 422.
AN ACT to repeal Section nine of an Act passed February
23, 1858, entitled "An Act to incorporate the President and
Directors of the American Fire Insurance Company of Bal-
timore," and to re-enact the same with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section nine of an Act passed February 23, 1858,
entitled "An Act to incorporate the President and Directors
of the American Fire Insurance Company of Baltimore," be
and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted as follows:

Baltimore.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the stockholders composing
the association, or their representative by proxy, shall hold a
meeting for the election of directors on the first Monday in
January in each and every year, and choose, by ballot, from
among the stockholders, twenty-four directors to serve for
one year; each stockholder shall be entitled to one vote for
each and every share of stock held by him; the directors so
chosen shall serve until the first Monday in January follow-
ing, and until others shall be chosen, and no longer; at their
first meeting, after every election, they shall choose, by ballot,
a president either from amongst their own body or from the
other stockholders; and in case of a vacancy or vacancies,
caused by the death, resignation or disqualification of any oi
the present board of directors, or any of the board of directors
elected, as herein provided, the stockholders shall proceed,
by ballot, to fill such vacancy or vacancies for the remainder
of the year.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That any Act conflicting with
this Act be and the same is hereby repealed.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
