LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Laurel, Vansville, Bladensburg, Bowie and Kent, as
said districts existed and were known on January ist,
1900, shall elect one County Road Commissioner,
who shall be a freeholder and resident of their sections
of the county, and well fitted to have charge of the
repairing and construction of roads; and the legally qualified
voters of that porton of the county comprised in the election
district of Queen Anne, Marlboro, Melwood, Nottingham and
Aquasco, as said districts existed and were known on Janu-
ary 1, 1900, shall elect one County Road Commissioner, who
shall be a freeholder1 and resident of their said sections of the
county, and well-fitted to have charge of the repairing and
construction of roads; and the legally qualified voters of that
portion of the county comprised in the election districts of
Brandywine, Piscataway, Surratts, Spaldings and Oxen Hill,
as said districts existed and were known on January 1, 1900,
shall elect one County Road Commissioner, who shall be a
freeholder and resident of their section of the county, and
well-fitted to have charge of the repairing and construction of

roads; which three County Road Commissioners shall con-
stitute the Board of County Road Commissioners; their terms
of office shall begin upon the first Monday of February follow-
ing their election, and continue for two years, and until their
successors may be elected and qualified, when their office and
all records, funds and property under their control shall be
turned over to their successors.

Organizations.

283. The Board of District Road Trustees shall each be
composed of three persons, freeholders and residents of the
road district which they are to manage, and shall be appointed
by the Board of County Road Commissioners on the first day
of April, or at their first meeting thereafter in each year.
They shall meet immediately after their appointment, organ-
ize and enter upon their duties. They shall appoint from
among themselves a chairman, to hold office for one year; and
promptly give notice of their organization to the Board of
County Road Commissioners. In case of inefficiency, refused
to act, breach of trust or removal from his road district on the
part of any district road trustee, the Board of County Road
Commissioners shall declare the office of such trustee vacant,
and notify him of such action; said board shall thereupon
appoint a successor to the trustee so removed for his unexpired
term. Said district road trustee shall serve without pay. In
case a suitable trustee or trustees cannot be gotten in any road
