continuous ride, except at such points on said lines where
such form a route so as to permit a passenger to return in the
same general direction of the line upon which the transfer
was issued, the privilege of the transfer not to apply to the
terminus of any line or route; provided, that nothing in this
Act shall be construed to affect any of the interests of the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore in the said United Rail-
ways and Electric Company of Baltimore, or any of the
railways consolidated under the corporate name.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from and after July 1, 1900; provided, that the present
system of free transfers now in use on said railway lines shall
continue in use until said date.

CHAPTER 314.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and Common
Council of Westminster to contract with the Westminster
Fire and Hose Company No. 1, of Westminster, a body
corporate, for its aid in the suppression of fires in the cor-
porate limits of the City of Westminster.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and Common Council of Westminster
be and it is hereby authorized and empowered to contract with
the Westminster Fire Engine and Hose Company No. 1, of
Westminster, a body corporate, for its aid and service in the
suppression of fires in the corporate limits of the City of
Westminster for a term of fourteen years, and pay therefor to
said company the sum of three hundred dollars per annum for
said term; the said sum of three hundred dollars per annum
to be applied to the payment of the principal of the mortgage
debt of forty-three hundred dollars now owing on the build-
ing of said company; and the whole amount so paid by the
said the Mayor and Common Council of Westminster shall,
upon the sale of said building, or non use thereof for fire
company purposes, or the dissolution of said company, be
repaid to the said the Mayor and Common Council of West-
minster by said company without interest.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
