deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof
before any justice of the. peace of said county shall be fined
not less than ten dollars nor more than twenty dollars for each
offense, together with the costs of prosecution, or shall be
subject to a forfeiture of the dog or dogs and gun to the said

person belonging, or both fine and forfeiture, in the discretion
of the justice of the peace before whom such person is found
guilty, and upon the forfeiture of said dog or dogs and gun,
the same shall be sold by the officer making the arrest, who
shall receive a fee of two dollars therefor, to be paid from the
proceeds of such sale; and one-half of all such fines and pro-
ceeds of forfeitures, after, all costs are paid, shall be paid to
the owner or occupant of the land swearing out the warrant,
and the other half to the County Commissioners.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
six of Article 52 of the Code of Public General Laws, title
"Justices of the Peace," sub-title "Civil Jurisdictions," as
amended by Acts of eighteen hundred and ninety-eight,
Chapter one hundred and sixty-seven.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section six of Article 52 of the Code of Public
General Laws, title "Justices of the Peace," sub-title "Civil
Jurisdictions," as amended by Acts of eighteen hundred and
ninety-eight, Chapter one hundred and sixty-seven, be and
the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
as follows:

6. The civil jurisdiction of justices of the peace extends to
all cases for the enforcement of contracts, and to obtain redress
for wrongs where the debt or damages claimed shall not
exceed one hundred dollars; to all suits on bonds with penalty
exceeding one hundred dollars, where the sum due and
claimed does not exceed one hundred dollars; to actions of
replevin, where the value of the thing in controversy does not
exceed one hundred dollars, and which value shall be ascer-
tained by appraisers summoned and sworn by the sheriff or
other officer to whom the writ of replevin is directed; and
to all cases of attachments against non-resident or absconding
