and possess the further powers, rights, privileges and fran-
chises conferred upon it by this Act; and all the powers,
rights, privileges and franchises conferred upon it by its
charter and the amendments thereto are hereby continued in
full force and effect, except in so far as they are expressly
altered or changed by this Act.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the several trustees of the
said the Jacob Tome Institute shall be residents of this State,
but they need not be residents of the Town of Port Deposit or
Cecil County.

Age of

students.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said the Jacob Tome
Institute may admit to its privileges students above eighteen
years of age.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said the Jacob Tome
Institute may acquire, hold and use any pieces, parcels or
tracts of lands lying in or adjacent to the Town of Port
Deposit, together — not exceeding two hundred acres — for the
the uses and purposes of its school or educational institution,
and such lands, and the buildings and improvements thereon,

bequests.

shall be exempt from all State, county and municipal taxes;
and the said the Jacob Tome Institute shall have power to
take and receive by gift, grant, purchase or devise any real
estate or any leasehold property in this State or elsewhere, and
to use, lease or otherwise dispose of the same or any part
thereof in any manner not inconsistent with law, but all real
estate and leasehold property owned by the said the Jacob
Tome Institute, and not used for the purposes of its school or
educational institution, shall be subject to taxation as other
like property.

May erect
additional
buildings.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said the Jacob Tome
Institute may erect a dormitory or dormitories, and make
provision for the boarding of its students, residing in this
State or elsewhere, upon such terms and conditions as it may
determine; that it may make such charges for tuition, books
and stationery furnished its students who are not residents of
this State as it may deem right and proper; but said institute
shall furnish to its students who are residents of this State
tuition, books and stationery free of charge.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
