JOINT RESOLUTIONS.
WHEREAS, The United States Naval authorities have
erected on the "Government farm," adjoining the Naval
Academy grounds, at Annapolis, a hospital building, which
building has not been used for any purpose for a number of
years, and is consequently falling to decay; and,
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland is desirous of acquiring
a similar building for the purpose of establishing and main-
taining a normal and industrial school for colored children;
therefore, be it

grant and
convey to the
State.

Resolved, By the General Assembly of Maryland that the
Senators and Representatives in Congress from the State of
Maryland be and they are hereby requested to use all proper
efforts to have the United States authorities grant and convey
to the State of Maryland the Naval Hospital building on the
"Government farm," adjoining the Naval Academy, at An-
napolis, with such quantity of land for the maintenance of a
normal and industrial school for colored children.
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be immediately
forwarded to the Senators and Representatives in Congress
from the State of Maryland.

WHEREAS, Congress, in the River and Harbor Act approved
June 3, 1896, gave authority to the Secretary of War, under
the supervision of the Chief of Engineers, to cause a survey
to be made of the channel of the entrance to the harbor of
Annapolis, Maryland, which authorization and the objects
thereof are contained in words, as follows, to wit: "Annapolis
harbor, with a view of straightening, widening and deepening
the channel of the entrance to said harbor, so as to obtain a
ship's channel of one hundred and fifty feet wide and twenty-
eight feet deep, at mean low water, from Chesapeake Bay to
the wharves of the United States Naval Academy, in said har-
bor"; and,
WHEREAS, Under said authorization an official survey was
made which was duly communicated to the Speaker of the
House of Representatives by the Secretary of War on Decem-
ber 9, 1896, and printed as House Document No. 57, Fifty-
fourth Congress, second session; and,
