Joint resolutions of the General Assembly of Maryland to
Congress in relation to the equitable share of the State in
the Public Lands of the United States, for the benefit of the
public schools of Maryland.
WHEREAS, of the public lands of the United States, the
common property of the Union, 600,000,000 acres still remain
unsold and undisposed of by Congress; and
WHEREAS, Congress has granted to twenty-seven States,
since the year 1803, in round numbers, 68,000,000 acres of
Public Land for common or public schools; and
WHEREAS, Congress has never granted to the State of Mary-
land one acre of said Public Lands for the benefit of her public
schools: and
WHEREAS, It was chiefly because of the wisdom and
sagacity of the Maryland statesmen that the Public Lands
were ceded to the Union by the several States that originally
claimed them; therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Senators and Representatives of this State in Congress be
and they are hereby earnestly requested to take such action as
in their judgment will lead to the passage of an Act granting to
the State of Maryland for the use and benefit of its public
schools a just proportion of the Public Lands belonging to
the United States.

Joint Resolution requesting the Senators and Representatives
in Congress from the State of Maryland to use all proper
endeavors to have the authorities of the United States deed
and convey to the State of Maryland the Naval Hospital
building, located on the Government farm adjoining the
Naval Academy grounds, near Annapolis.
