the said conduit was imperfectly constructed, was the founda-
tion of certain four dwelling-houses belonging to Sarah Wise,
on North Carey street, in said city, and in consequence of said
imperfect construction the cellar of said houses was flooded
" for a long period of time and the walls thereof greatly damaged,
and said Sarah Wise was put to the cost and expense of four
hundred dollars in consequence of said imperfectly and neg-
ligently constructed drain; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sum of four hundred dollars be and the same
is hereby appropriated to pay to the said Sarah Wise, the
amount of loss and damages incurred by her as set forth in
the preamble of this Act.

Refund to
Sarah wise.
|
SEC. 2. That the Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed
to draw his warrant on the Comptroller for the sum of four
hundred dollars to pay to the said Sarah Wise, the amount
hereby appropriated.

CHAPTER 667.
AN ACT to authorize the Register of Wills for Dorchester
Counts to make a general index of certain records of this
office.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Register of Wills for Dorchester County be
and he is hereby authorized and required to make, or have
made, a general index of all records of wills, administration
accounts, guardian accounts, dividends, bonds, receipts and
releases and inventories in his office for the year 1852 and the
year subsequent thereto, and to provide a book or books proper
and requisite for such purpose.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
of Dorchester County be and they are hereby required to levy
upon the assessable property of said county a sum sufficient
to pay the said Register of Wills the cost of the books afore-
said, and also the sum of five cents for indexing each will or
other instrument required to be indexed by him by this Act;
provided, that not more than two hundred and fifty dollars
be levied for said purpose in any one year.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the Register of Wills afore-
said shall make out from time to time as may be necessary a
true and correct statement of the services rendered under and
by the authority of this Act, so far as the same are therein
