1900.] OF THE SENATE. 993 Senate bill No. 243, entitled "An Act to add certain additional sections to Article 77 of the Code of the Pub- lic General Laws, to come in after section 17, to be known as ‘Sections 17 A, 17 B and 17 C,' providing for a Super- intendent of Public Education." AMENDMENTS PROPOSED. In section 1, strike out the word "respectively” and in- sert as follows: "and to repeal and re-enact with amend- ments, section 71, of said Article." At end of section 176, add the following: "it shall also be the duty of the said Superintendent of Public Educa- tion to hold a teachers' institute in each county of the State for five days in each year." Add the following after section 71: "the faculty of the State Normal School shall consist of the principal and as many teachers as shall be determined by the State Board of Education, who shall be appointed by said board, and have such salaries and perform such duties as said board may direct." Strike out in the title all after the number "176." and insert as follows: "And to repeal and re-enact with amendments section 71 of said Article." Which proposed amendments were severally adopted, and The bill was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading. Mr. Rohrback, from Committee on Insurance and Loans, reported favorably, Senate bill No. 276, entitled "An Act to authorize cer- tain Mutual Fire Insurance Companies of the State of Maryland, to reinsure in other companies the whole or part of risks assumed by said Mutual Fire Insurance Companies." Which was read the second time and ordered to be en- g.rossed for a third reading. Mr. Bryan, from Committee on Library, reported fa- vorably, Senate bill entitled "An Act providing for a State sub- scription to the work entitled ‘Maryland Digest of Wills." On motion of Mr. Williams, of Harford, Said bill was referred to the Committee on Finance. 63 |
