1900.] OF THE SENATE. 45 The main building is in fair condition, having been lately painted. It, however, needs a new roof and proper drainage, An abundant and pure supply of water has lately been had in a flowing artesian well, costing over $400.00. To carry this water to the building is now a necessity, and will cost considerable. The building should be properly lighted, for coal oil is neither safe or sufficient. The present building, called "The Annex," now used for school rooms, was never intended for such, (only a hail), and can never be properly fitted for such, and the school is in great need of a proper school building. The heretofore neglect of female edu- cation and the small aid now and heretofore given it compared with the aid now and heretofore given the male school, should give this school special claims upon the people of the State; for I believe it has- not its superior in the State. On motion of Mr. Applegarth, it was Ordered, That the Senate excuse Senator Claggett from attendance at its sessions, on account of sickness, till his health has so improved as to permit his presence. On motion of Mr. Dick, it was Ordered, That Senator Ravenscroft be excused from to-day's session on account of business. On motion of Mr. Brewington, it was Ordered, That Wm. J. 0. Dulany, State Printer, be directed to send to each of the newspapers in th-e State of Maryland, a copy of the Journal of each session of the Senate, also, a copy to the City Librarian of Balti- more City, and to the several Boards of County Com- missioners throughout the State, and the Postmaster is |
