Mr. Wilkinson submitted the following

REPORT:

To the General Assembly of Maryland:

In compliance with my duty to report annually on the
condition and conduct of the school, (St. Mary's Female
Seminary, St. Mary's county, Md.,) I beg heave to say
that the school opened in September last with an en-
rollment of fifty, and has at this time that number of
pupils. The health of the school is excellent, and there.
is nothing in the surroundings that could indicate any-
thing to the contrary. Fourteen trustees, citizens of
the county, supervise and direct the school. Its immediate
control is under a principal and six teachers. Every de-
partment of study, including music, is complete. Every
county of the State and each Legislative district of
Baltimore is represented, and the present system
is in our opinion working well and will give good.
and valuable results to the State, and we doubt
if better or superior results could be shown by
any institution, public or private, in the State and
given annually, goes, for the most part, for the pay oi
teachers board, etc., of the free State scholarships, leav
ing only a small amount to meet the necessary repairs
