Gentlemen of the Senate:
We have received your message inviting the presence
of the House of Delegates to-day at 12 M., to participate
with you in the inauguration of the Governor elect, and
to witness the administration of the oath of office to him
by the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, in com-
pliance with the requirements of the Constitution and
Laws of the State. We accept the invitation, and will
be in readiness to be conducted to the Senate by your
Committee.

Which was read.
At 11.50 A. M.,
The Speaker and members of the House of Delegates
arrived.
At12M.,
The Hon. John Walter Smith (the Governor-elect,)
arrived, accompanied by His Excellency Governor
Lloyd Lowndes, Ex-Governor Frank Brown and the
Judges of the Court of Appeals.
Whereupon,
The Governor-elect arose and delivered the following
address in the presence of the General Assembly, the
Honorable Judges of the Court of Appeals, and a large
concourse of citizens. After which the oath of office was
administered by the Hon. James McSherry, Chief Judge
of the Court of Appeals, in accordance with the Consti-
tution of the State of Maryland.

Senators, Gentlemen of the House of Delegates and
Fellow Citizens:
Four years ago the Democratic party surrendered the
government of this State to the Republicans. Prior to
that time for nearly thirty years the Democrats had.
