268 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 12 Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ju- dicial Proceedings. Mr. Marsh presented a petition from John B. Joy, John B. Harten, Wm T. Carey and 190 other oystermen of Calvert county, protesting against the passage of the bill introduced by the Hon. Oliver D. Simmons, to abolish the use of the deep-water oyster tongs in the waters of the Patuxent river. Also, Praying that the time for taking or catching oysters with rakes or tongs in the waters of the Patuxent be shortened. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Chesapeake Bay and Tributaries. Mr. Applegarth presented a petition to protect wild fowl on lower Hooper's Island, from Geo. H. White and 27 other citizens. Which was read and refeired to the Committee on Game and Fish. Also, A petition from Sister Josepha asking for an appropri- ation of $3,000 to aid in the support of orphan girls. Which was read and referred to the Committe on Finance. ORDERS. On motion of Mr. Williams, of Harford, it was Ordered, That Messrs. Baker, Dick, Moore and Gray be excused from attendance at to-night's session. INTRODUCTION OF BILLS. By Mr. Rohrback, A bill entitled "An Act to provide forthe enlargement and repairs of the buildings of the Maryland Agricul- tural College, and further to provide for the free instruc- tion, books and board for two students of Agriculture or the Mechanical Arts from each of the counties of the State." |
