1900.] OF THE SENATE. 25 Houses open the returns of election for Governor of the State of Maryland, in conformity with the requirements of the Constitution, and we concur therein. By order, ALFRED RITTTER, Secretary. Which was read, assented to, and sent to the House of Delegates. At 2.25, P. 31., On motion of Mr. Crothers, The Senate went into Executive Session. At 2.29 o'clock, P. M., The Senate resumed Legislative business. At 2.30 P. M., The Committee on the part of the House appeared at the bar of the Senate to conduct the Senators to the Hall of the House of Delegates for the purpose of opening the returns of the election of Governor of Maryland, as had previously been agreed upon, when the following proceedings were had JOINT CONVENTION. After a call of the roll of both Honses, it appearing that there were 24 Senators and 88 members present. The Speaker, as Chairman of the Joint Convention, opened the returns for the election of Governor, and they were read. It was found that the Hon. John Walter Smith had received 128,409 votes. The Hon. Lloyd Lowndes 116,286 votes. The Hon. James Swanu 5,275 votes. The Hon. John A. Rugmer 420 votes. The Hon. William Levin Hill 367 votes. The Hon. George L. Wellingtoa 3 votes. The Hon. Levin Thomas Jones 432 votes. Whereupon, The Speaker, as Chairman of the Joint Convention, de- clared the Hon. John Walter Smith having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared Governor for |
