1900.] OF THE SENATE. 1209 The Senate considered the Order of the Day, being Mr. Putzel, from Select Committee, reported favorably, with proposed amendment, House bill entitled "An Act to authorize, empower, direct and compel the Mayor and City Council of Balti- more city to purchase all that portion of the turnpike of the Baltimore and Fredericktown Turnpike Company lying within the limits of Baltimore city." AMENDMENT PROPOSED. Amend by striking out the words directed and com- pelled' on line 3 of section 1, and inserting the word "and” between "authorized, empowered." Which proposed amendment was adopted by yeas and nays as follows: AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. Betts, Marsh, Bouic, Messick, Bryan, Moses, Crothers, Putzel, Dennis, Ravenscroft, Gray, Wilkinson, Kirwan, Williams, of A. A.,. —14. NEGATIVE. Messrs. Applegarth, Moore, Baker, Peter, Beasmsn, Rohrback, Brewington, Williams, of Har., Dodson, —9. FURTHER AMENDMENT PROPOSED. Amend title of bill by strikiag out the word "compel." Which proposed amendment was adopted, and The bill was read the second time. SECOND ORDER OF THE DAY.
