ing, paving and curbing the streets, lanes and. alleys of
the city of Baltimore assessable upon the property bene-
fited thereby, and for the reimbursement of the city of
Baltimore in respect thereto out of the money derived
from said assessments. "
On motion 01 Mr. Choate,
Leave was granted to the Judiciary Committee to in-
troduce a bill entitled "An Act to amend Article 28, of
the Code of Public General Laws, title 'Crimes and Pun-
ishments, ' sub-title 'Gaming, ' by repealing section 124
E, thereof, as enacted by the Act of 1898, chapter 285,
and to re-enact the. same as amended. "
INTRODUCTION OF RESOLUTION.
Mr. Feldmeyer submitted the following:
JOINT RESOLUTION.
Of the General Assembly of the State of Maryland, to
Congress to improve the Severn river and harbor of An-
napolis, Maryland.
Whereas, Congress in the River and Harbor Act ap-
proved June 3rd, 1896, gave authority to the Secretary
of War under the Supervision of the Chief of Engineers
to cause a survey to be made of the channel of the en-
trance to the harbor of Annapolis Maryland which
authorization, and the objects thereof, are contained in
words as follows, to wit:
Annapolis harbor with a view of straightening, widen-
ing and deepening the channel of the entrance to said
harbor so as to obtain a ship's channel of 150 feet wide,
and 28 feet deep at mean low water from Chesapeake
Bay to the wharves of the United States Naval Academy,
in said harbor, and
Whereas, under said authorization an official survey
was made which was duly communicated to the Speaker
of the House of Representatives by the Secretary of
War on December 9, 1896, and printed as House Docu-
ment No. §7, 54th Congress, 2d session; and
Whereas, in said report it was stated that the sum of
$142, 000 was necessary in order to straighten, widen and
