Hon. John A. Rugmer had received 420 votes.

Hon. Wm. Nevin Hill had received 367 votes.

Hon. Levin Thomas Jones had received 432 votes.

Hon. George L. Wellington had received 3 votes.

Whereupon,

The Speaker declared that Hon. John Walter Smith,
having received the highest number of votes cast, was
duly elected Governor of Maryland for the term of four
years from the term of his qualification, as prescribed by
the Constitution.

The Speaker then declared the Joint Assembly ad-
journed.

The Senators returned to the Senate chamber, and the
House resumed business.

On motion of Mr. Biggs, it was

Ordered, that there be an additional screen four feet
in width and four feet high placed to the left of the
Prince George's county delegation, and adjoining the
screen now in place, to protect the delegates in that sec-
tion of the hall from the drafts of air through the door.

The Speaker announced the following
