emblem or device shall in no case be the same or similar
to any emblem or device, which appeared upon the offi-
cial ballot voted at the last preceding November election,
and that no ballot shall contain the same emblem or des-
ignation as that upon any other ballot upon which the
candidates are not identical. In case of the filing with
the said Board of Supervisors of a request for the print-
ing of two or more ballots different as to candidates, but
with the same designation or emblem, or with desig-
nation or emblems so closely resembling as in
the judgment of the said Board of Supervisors
may deceive or confuse voters, it shall be the duty
of the Board of Supervisors to print the emblem or
designation upon the ballot first filed with the said
Board of Supervisors, and to permit the person or per-
sons filing the request lor the printing of the other bal-
lot or ballots to substitute another emblem or another
designation or both.

"No request for the printing of ballots shall be receiv-
ed or filed until there has been paid to the Board of Sup-
ervisors or to its clerk, the cost of the printing of such
ballots. It shall be the duty of the said Board of Sup-
ervisors of Elections ascertain at least twenty-five days
before the time fixed for the holding of said primary,
the precise cost per hundred and per thousand of the
printing of ballots for the said primary election arid said
Supervisors shall promptly inform all inquirers what
the cost of such work will be.

"The Board of Supervisors shall cause all ballots order-
ed from them in the manner set forth herein to be printed
as promptly as possible and delivered to the person or per-
sons ordering the same, said person or persons may order
and pay for additional copies of the said ballots at any
time before the close of the said primary election, and it
shall be the duty of the said Supervisors to furnish such
additional copies of said ballot as soon after receiving
such orders as may be practicable.

"All ballots printed for any primary election shall
have printed upon their back and endorsement substan-
tially as follows: "'Official ballot, primary election (here
give party name) party. " And below such endorsement
shall be printed a fac-simile of the signature of the Pres-
