The senate having qualified agreeably to the constitution
and form of government, proceeded to the election
W E D N E S D A Y, November 12, 1800. THE senate met. Present the same members as
on yesterday, except Nicholas Hammond, Esquire, who had THE office of register of wills being vacant in Harford county, we propose, with the concurrence of your house, to go into an election immediately. Mr. Abraham Jarrett and Mr. Alexander Lawson Smith are nominated by this house to fill this office, and we have appointed Mr. Nelson and Mr. Edmondson, in conjunction with any members of your house, to examine the ballots. By order, W. HARWOOD, clk. Which was read. Charles Ridgely, of Hampton, Esquire, has leave of absence till Monday next. The bill to repeal an act, entitled, An act for the more effectual preservation of the breed of wild deer in Somerset and Dorchester counties, so far as it respects the county of Dorchester, was read the second time and will pass. The following message was prepared, read, agreed to, and sent to the house of delegates by the clerk. WE are ready to proceed immediately to the election of register of wills of Harford county, as proposed by you. No person is put in nomination for that office by the senate in addition to those named by you. John Chesley and William Hindman, Esquires, are appointed to join the gentlemen named in your message in the examination of the ballots. By order, W. S. GREEN, clk. The senate then proceeded to the election of a person to be commissioned as register of wills for Harford county; the ballot box being prepared, the ballots were deposited therein, sealed up, and delivered to the committee of the senate appointed to meet the committee of the house of delegates, who retired to the conference room, and after the examination of the ballots returned and reported, that Abraham Jarrett had a majority of votes. Whereupon it is declared in the senate, that Abraham Jarrett be recommended to the governor to be commissioned as register of wills for Harford county. T H U R S D A Y, November 13, 1800.
