A bill, entitled, An act for the direction of surveyors in executing warrants of escheat in certain cases, a bill,
entitled, An act to alter the times of the session Baltimore county court, of the court of oyer and terminer
and gaol delivery for Baltimore county, and of the court of appeals, severally endorsed; " By the house of delegates,
" December 1, 1800:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

" By the house of delegates, December 5, 1800:  Read the second time and will pass.

A bill, entitled, An act for the relief of William Works, of Cæcil county, a bill, entitled, A supplement to an
act, entitled, An act to authorise and empower the levy court of Montgomery county to assess and levy a sum of
money on the assessable property thereof for the purpose of building a new gaol in said county, severally endorsed;

And also the following resolution:

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 4, 1800.
    Whereas it is represented to this general assembly, that negro Simon, the slave of a certain James Hodges, of
Kent county, was convicted of murder at a court of oyer and terminer and gaol delivery for Baltimore
county, at the court-house in said county, in July, eighteen hundred, and was sentenced to be hanged, which
said sentence was commuted to banishment out of the United States, and that the said slave was valued by the
said court to the sum of ninety pounds current money; RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western
shore pay to the said James Hodges, or order, the sum of ninety pounds current money, the valuation of the
said negro slave Simon.
                                                            By order,                                                    W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which were severally read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The president communicates to the senate a letter from his excellency the governor of this day, with a
letter from the president of the senate of the United States, notifying the resignation of James Lloyd, Esquire,
of his seat as a senator from this state in the senate of the United States; which were read, referred to the consideration
of the house of delegates, and sent by the clerk.
    Agreeably to the order of the day, the senate proceeded to the consideration of the resolution in favour of Rachel
Shipley, and after examination of several witnesses, and the hearing of the parties by their counsel,
on motion, ORDERED, that the further consideration thereof be postponed till Monday.
The senate adjourns till Monday morning 10 o'clock.

M    O    N    D    A    Y,    December 8, 1800.

    THE senate met.  Present the same members as on Saturday.  The proceedings of Saturday were read.
    The following message and resolution were read, assented to, and sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.

By the SENATE, December 8, 1800.
        GENTLEMEN,
    IT having been notified to the legislature that James Lloyd, Esquire, has resigned his seat as senator for this
state in the senate of the United States, we propose, with your concurrence, to proceed to supply the vacancy
occasioned by his resignation at the time and in the manner proposed in our resolve herewith transmitted to you.
                                                            By order,                                                    W. S.  GREEN, clk.
By the SENATE, December 8, 1800.
    RESOLVED, That Tuesday, the ninth instant, be appointed to choose a senator to represent this state in the senate
of the United States, who shall be a resident of the eastern shore, and that the person having a majority of votes
of all the then attending members of both houses be declared to be duly elected to represent this state in the
senate of the United States for the remainder of the term for which James Lloyd, Esquire, was elected, and
that a commission issue to the said senator appointed as aforeisad, signed by the governor for the time being,
or in his absence by the presiding member of the council, in the following words, to wit:  To --------.  The
legislature of Maryland, reposing especial confidence in your integrity and abilities, hath appointed you senator
to represent this state in the senate of the United Sates for the remainder of the term for which James Lloyd,
Esquire, was elected, agreeably to the constitution of the United States.  Given under my hand and the seal of 
this state, anno domini ----.
