The resolution respecting the appointment of a senator
to represent this state in the senate of the United
and sent to the senate, with the following message: WE have agreed to the resolution referred to in your message of yesterday, with the proposed amendment, and are ready to proceed to the election immediately. William Hindman and Richard Tilghman Earle, Esquires, are put in nomination by us, and we have appointed Mr. Smith, Baltimore, and Mr. Wilson, to join such gentlemen as you may be pleased to appoint to examine the ballots. By order, W. HARWOOD, clk. On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to regulate constables fees in the several counties therein mentioned. ORDERED, That Mr. Lowrey, Mr. Thompson and Mr. Dashiell, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same. Mr. Shriver, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to prevent the going at large of geese and swine in Creager's-town, in Frederick county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table. A petition from the constables of Kent county, praying an increase of fees, was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed to bring in a bill to regulate constables fees. Mr. Stansbury, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report: THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Messrs. Samuel Owings, James Carroll, John Merryman, James Carey and Nicholas Rogers, commissioners for the purpose of erecting a new gaol in the county of Baltimore, having taken the same into their consideration, report, that the distresses of the inhabitants of the city of Baltimore and its precincts, arising from the yellow fever, which has extended its effects through the county in general, and from the heavy direct tax lately collected, there ought not to be imposed on the county at this time any additional taxes; but they are of opinion that the said commissioners should sell and dispose, in the first instance, the public property placed in their hands, as directed by law, the proceeds whereof to be applied to the discharge of the debt incurred in building the new gaol. By order, J. S. BETTON, clk. Which was read the first and second time and concurred with. A petition from Samuel Y. Keene, praying compensation for his services as assistant surgeon in the Maryland line during the late war, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Gunby, Mr. Hyland, Mr. Stuart, Mr. Chapman and Mr. Dashiell, to consider and report thereon. Mr. Gilpin, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report: THE committee to whom was referred the petition of sundry inhabitants of the third and fourth election districts of Cæcil county report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion that the facts stated are true, and that the prayer thereof is reasonable, and ought to be granted. By order, L. GASSAWAY, clk. Which was read the first and second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto. ORDERED, That the committee appointed on said petition prepare and bring in the same. |
