BY the HOUSE of DELEGATES, November 13, 1800. YOUR message of the 11th instant highly merits, and has justly obtained, our most respectful attention, and our most serious consideration. And could we, consistently with our ideas of the impressive duty we owe to our constituents, we would willingly accede to your proposition of proceeding to the election of a senator to represent this state in the senate of the United States; bur persuaded as we are, that the interest of the republic would be greatly advanced by a reference of this momentous subject to the consideration of the next general assembly. we are unwilling at this time to proceed to the election, the event of which will be obviously of such extensive and lasting importance. By order, L. GASSAWAY, clk. Which was read. A petition from James A. Magruder, of Prince-George's county, praying an act of insolvency, was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition of Thomas J. Beatty, to consider and report thereon. The clerk of the senate delivers the bill to repeal an act, entitled, An act for the more effectual preservation of the breed of wild deer in Somerset and Dorchester counties, so far as it respects the county of Dorchester, endorsed; " By the senate, November 8, 1800: Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table. " By order, W. S. GREEN, clk. " By the senate, November 12, 1800: Read the second time and will pass. " By order, W. S. GREEN, clk. Ordered to be engrossed. On the second reading of the message of the committee appointed to prepare an answer to the message of the senate on the eleventh instant, for appointing a senator to represent this state in the senate of the United States, the question was put, That the following be received as an amendment to the said message? And believing as we do, that the interest of the state demands, and that we should be forgetful of our duty to our constituents were we to neglect it, we agree this day to go into the election of a senator of the United States from this state, agreeably to the proposal in your message. The speaker laid before the house the following report: hath been received on account of confiscated property, &c. from the 1st of November, 1799, to the 1st of November, 1800, by the treasurer of the western shore, the sum of £. 76 15 11, and by the agent, and paid to the treasurer, the sum of £. 5177 8 31/2, amounting to the sum of £. 5254 4 21/2, as per abstract No. 1. On account of taxes on the western shore, by the agent, and paid to the treasurer, the sum of £. 442 4 4, as per abstract No. 2. |
