The examinacon of Jeffery Mischall
Saith that About July last or August John Ellis & his wife being at my house often fell
Out his wife wd: tell him of his hogg stealing The said Ellis said why should not he doe as
his father had done before him he copleyes that his finger Itch to draw Some of her welsh
whoress blood & beat her Rufully
Wm: Matthews Saith that he found hairs buried in Jno: Ellis Junrs: ground both white &
black hogs hairs Isack Boston confirmes this Esau Boston confirms this & Robert Hall
Confirmes this The 13th: day of June 1688

John Ellis Junr:
Somerstt: County Ss By Vertue of Recognizance taken before mr: Edmund Howard one of his
Lopps Justices for this County bearing date the Tenth day of Aprill 1688 wherein
Complaint was made to the said Justice that Jno: Ellis Junr: this County that Sometimes
in the Mounth of March last past the said Jno: Ellis Junr: did clandestinely & feloniously
in the night kill & Carry Away three shoates About a yeare old of the proper marke
of Jno: Rowell of this County cordwinder of the vallue apeece one hundred pounds of
Tobao: in the whole Three hundred pounds of Tobo: & about the same time the foresd: Jno:
Ellis Junr: did clandestinly & felloniously steale kill & Carry away one barrow hogg
of the proper Marke of Robert Hall of this said County valued at Two hundred & fifty
pounds of Tobacco. Now his Lopps Attourney comes & saith that the said Jno: Ellis
Junr: hath not only his practice to Steale & kill his neighbours inhabitants hoggs
but hath much Treatned the life of the informer for intending to divert the said delin=
=quente from his wicked & unlawfull courses & candid & free confession of the truth
To the greate detriment of his Lopps good people of this province abuse of his Lopps
good Lawes & institucons & dishonor: of Almighty God his Lopps Attourney Craves
Judgmt: may be enforced agt: the sd: Ellis According to Law in that case Provided &a

Upon wch: the said Jno: Ellis Junr: being by the aforesd: Jury of enquiry dilligently examined
& treyed & for their verdict made returne Billa vera
Now at This day (to witt) the 13th: day of June Anno 1688 The said Jno: Ellis Junr: was
brought to the barr & being asked whether he was guilty or not pleaded not guilty
& for his tryall put himselfe upon the Country upon which there was Comand given to the
Sheriff to impannell a Jury of Twelve good & sufficient men of his Bailywick wch: being
Impannelled & Sworne that is to Say John King fforeman Wm: Round Richard Ackworth
Henry Myles Jno: Smock Cornelius Morris Leonard Jones Jno: Miller Jno: ffreeman Abraham
Emmett Thomas Morris & Robert Cattlin who to Say the Truth of their knowledge accord=
=ing to the Evidences of ye ensueing respective persons that were sworne before ye Court & the
Said Jury (vizt) Mary the wife of John Ellis Junr: Wm: Colebourne Tanner Jeffery Minshall
Lewis Trevalley Taylor Wm: Shellitto Catherin Chestney Jno: Lowell Isack Boston Esau
Boston Robert Hall Teague Riggens & Mary his wife & Wm: Matthews Whereupon the
aforesd: Jury haveing received y their Charge goe upon their bisness
