James Baxter deft: Sommerset County Ss James Baxter of this County was summoned to
answr: unto ffrancis Jenckins of the same County in a plea of Debt
And whereupon the plte by James Sangster his attorney Comes & Sayes that the Sd: Baxter is
become & Stands indebted unto the plte in the full & Just sume of fifty five pounds Eight
Shillings of good & Lawfull money of England as may & doth appeare by a Certaine bond or
Instrumt: under the hand & Seale of the said James Baxter bearing date y 22d: day of April
Annoq Dom: 1686 & is here in Cort: produced wherein he bindes himselfe his heires executors
and administrators to pay or Cause to be paid to the plte his heires exeutrs: admrs: or assignes
the foresaid sume of fifty five pounds eight Shillings sterling money upon Condition
that y sd: Baxter or his aforesds: Shall well & truly pay or Cause to be pd: to the plt or his aforesds
the sume of twenty seaven pounds fourteene Shillings of Currant money of England being y Condicon
` of the Said bond but y deft: fraudulently & Craftely intending to deceive y plte of y aforesd: sume
of 27 pounds fourteene Shillings according to the Condicon of the said bond hath denied & doth denie
