June the 12th: 1689 113
Came Lawrence young with his sureties John Bounds and Andrew Whttington & did in
Open Court acknowledge themselves to stand indebted to the Rtt: honoble: the Lord propry: vizt: the -
said Lawrence Young in the Sume of Thirty pounds Sterling & John Bounds and Andrew -
Whittington in the Sume of fifteen pounds Sterl: apeice to be Leavied on their goods and
Chattles Lands and Tennements for the use of the Lord propry: aforesd: - - - - -
The Condicon being Such that if the abovesd: Lawrence young be of the good behavior: and
Abeareance towards all good people and more Especially within this County of Sumrsett and that
he make his personall appeareance every Court dureing pleasure as alsoe pay all officers -
ffees then the above Obligacon to be void Otherwise to remaine in full force - - - -
=Came John Bounds and in open Court did Oblidge himselfe to save Andrew Whittington harmless
=from all damages that may accrue or come on him for the non payment of officers ffees due -

Evangelist at a grand Jury held for the body of this County the second Tuesday
In November last past doo present and finde that Joseph Boyce of this County planter
Not haveing the feare of God nor respect to his Sacred and devine Lawes and Comandmts:
And agt: the good and wholesume Lawes & institucons of this province in Contempt of his Lordpps Lawes
Hath spoken most Malitiously and Contemptiously both of his person and Authority at the house of
Ambrose London and else where on the 25th: day of Aprill last past by those Words Swearing by
God that his Dogg should make a better Comissioner then any of them that Were Sworne Nameing
Thomas Jones and King saying further what were they but a pack of Rogues = whereby the said
Boyce hath endeavored what in him Leyeth to bring his Lordpps Lawes and Authoritty in Contempt and
Raise sedicon agt: his Lordpp amongst the people and agt: the weale and peace of this Province his Lordpps
Attourney Craves Judgment May be enterd agt: the offendr: as in Law is provided in that Case &t:
The same day vizt: the 12th: day of June in the xiiiith: yeare of his Lordpps Domion &t: annog Domi 1689
Came the aforesaid Joseph Boyce in his proper person and pleaded not guilty and for his Treyall put
himselfe upon the Countrey . . . . .
Upon which Comand was given to the sheriff of this County to cause to Come here Twelve good and
Lawfull men of his Bayliwick by whome &t: and who Neither &t: to recognize &t: because as well &t
Now here at this day to witt the 12th: day of June as aforesd: Came the aforesd: Joseph Boyce to the -
Barr and the Jurors of that Jury likewise Came vizt: John West William Dencem John Heath Wm:
Richardson Hope Taylor Thomas Morris John Jones Marsey ffountain John ffreeman Walter Talbert
John Barker and Matthew Scarbrough who being elected Treyed and Sworne to say the truth -
In the premisses upon their Oaths doe say Wee of the Jury doe finde Joseph Boyce not guilty
Whereupon it was Ordered by this Court that the said Joseph Boyce give forthwith Securitty as well
for his behavior: as for his appearance every Court dureing pleasure as alsoe for the paymt: of -
Officers ffees &t:
Came Joseph Boyce with his Sureties Edward Jones and William Warwick and did Acknowledge -
Themselves to stand indebted to the Rtt: honoble: the Lord propry: vizt: Joseph Boyce in the sume of Thirty
pounds Sterling and Edward Jones & Wm: Warwick in the Sume of ffifteen pounds Sterl: apeice to be
