At A County Co^rt: by adjournment held y 27^th: day of november in y eight year of the Dominion of the
R^t: hon^r:ble Charles over Maryland Annoq Do^m 1683 before his Lopp^s Justices thereunto Authorised

Thomas Nicklas plant^r is Committed to answ^r unto the R^t hon^rble the Lord Prop^ry of this Province
as alsoe to William Stevens of Pocomoke for that he the said Thomas Nicklas being a Servant to
the said William Stevens hath not only run away & unlawfully absented himselfe from his
Said masters Service for five weekes & one Day but did alsoe Steale and Cary away from
the Said William Stevens one new Gun or Carbine to the vallue of three hundred pounds
of tobacco & other harmes to y said William Stevens Did doe Contrary to y Law in that Case
provided for which the said William Stevens on the behalfe of the R^t hon^r:ble the Lord
Proprietary as alsoe for himselfe Doth Crave Judgem^t: according to Law;
The said Thomas Nicklas being brought by the Sherife before y Co^rt the Co^rt aske him
whome he woulld be tryed by The Said Thomas Nicklas humbly referred himselfe to
by tryed by the Co^rt: & Confessed himselfe guilty of Stealing away the gun from y hon^rble
Coll^o William Stevens And thereupon this Co^rt Orders that the Sherife take the said
Thomas Nicklas into his Custody & him well lay on upon the bare backe Twenty
Stripes (which was executed) And this Co^rt further orders That the said Thomas Nicklas
pay ffoure fold to Coll^o: W^m: Stevens for the said gun (the gun being valued by this
Co^rt: at three hundred pounds of Tobacco) And ffurther the said Thomas Nicklas
Confessed that he did unlawfully absent himselfe from his said masters Service
five weekes & one day: ffor the which this Co^rt orders the Said Thomas Nicklas to
Serve the said Coll^o: William Stevens or his order according to Act of Assembly in
Such Cases made & provided to witt: three hundred & Sixty dayes , / ; ~ ~ ~ ~

Ordered y^t they be Sett at Libertie paying ffees.: the Co^rt adjournes until tomorrow eight of the Clock
