At A County Cort: by adjournment held y 27th: day of november in y eight year of the Dominion of the
Rt: honr:ble Charles over Maryland Annoq Dom 1683 before his Lopps Justices thereunto Authorised

Thomas Nicklas plantr is Committed to answr unto the Rt honrble the Lord Propry of this Province
as alsoe to William Stevens of Pocomoke for that he the said Thomas Nicklas being a Servant to
the said William Stevens hath not only run away & unlawfully absented himselfe from his
Said masters Service for five weekes & one Day but did alsoe Steale and Cary away from
the Said William Stevens one new Gun or Carbine to the vallue of three hundred pounds
of tobacco & other harmes to y said William Stevens Did doe Contrary to y Law in that Case
provided for which the said William Stevens on the behalfe of the Rt honr:ble the Lord
Proprietary as alsoe for himselfe Doth Crave Judgemt: according to Law;
The said Thomas Nicklas being brought by the Sherife before y Cort the Cort aske him
whome he woulld be tryed by The Said Thomas Nicklas humbly referred himselfe to
by tryed by the Cort: & Confessed himselfe guilty of Stealing away the gun from y honrble
Collo William Stevens And thereupon this Cort Orders that the Sherife take the said
Thomas Nicklas into his Custody & him well lay on upon the bare backe Twenty
Stripes (which was executed) And this Cort further orders That the said Thomas Nicklas
pay ffoure fold to Collo: Wm: Stevens for the said gun (the gun being valued by this
Cort: at three hundred pounds of Tobacco) And ffurther the said Thomas Nicklas
Confessed that he did unlawfully absent himselfe from his said masters Service
five weekes & one day: ffor the which this Cort orders the Said Thomas Nicklas to
Serve the said Collo: William Stevens or his order according to Act of Assembly in
Such Cases made & provided to witt: three hundred & Sixty dayes , / ; ~ ~ ~ ~
