Jones: John Winder Henry Boston George Johnson & John White Gentl greetings Knowe yee yt for y great trust & confidence
wee have in yor fidelities Circumspections providences & wisdomes have Constituted Ordained & appointed & Doe by these
presents Constitute ordaine & appointe you y said William Stevens James Jones John Winder Henry Boston George ~ ~
Johnson & John White Gentl Commrs joyntly & severally to keepe y peace in Sommersett County & to keepe & Cause to bee
kept all Lawes & orders made for y good & Consideracon of y peace & for y quiet rule & Government of y people in all and
every y articles of y Same & to Chastise & punish all persons offending against y forme of any y Lawes & orders of our
said province or of any of them in Somrsestt County aforesaid as according to y forme of those Lawes & orders Shall bee fitt
to bee done wee have alsoe Constituted & ordained you & every four or more of you of which you y said Wm: Stevens (un-
less some one of our Counsell bee prsent) are alsoe to bee or Commr to Enquire by ye oathes of good & lawfull men of yor county
aforesaid of all manner of fellonyes Witchcrafts inchantements: Sorceries Magick arts Trespasses forestallings Ingross-
ings & Extorcons whatsoever & of all & Singular other misdeeds & offences of which Justices of y peace in England may or
ought lawfully to Enquire by whomesoever or whensoever Done or perpetrated or which hereafter Shall happen to bee
Done or perpetrated in y County aforesaid against y Lawes & orders of our Said province provided that you proceede not
in any of y Cases aforesaid to take life or member but that in every Such Case you sende y prisonrs with theire~
Indictment & y whole matter Depending before you to y next provinciall Court to bee holden of our said province
whensoever or wheresoever to bee holden there to bee tryed And furthr wee Doe hereby authorize you to issue writts pro=
cesses arrests & attachments: to hold plea of Oyer & Terminer and after judgment Execucon to award in all causes
civill whether in accons reall or personall where y thinge in accon Doth not exceede ye value of Three thousand pounds
of Toacco according to y Lawes orders & reasonable customes made & used in or Said province In which Causes Civill
Soe to bee tryed wee Doe Constitute ordaine & appoint you William Stevens to bee Judge as aforesaid unlesse Some-
one of or Councell bee then in Cort & therefore wee Comand you yt you Diligently intend y keeping of y peace Lawes &
Orders & all & Singular other y premisses and att certaine Dayes appointed according to act of assembly in y Case
provided & Such places which you or any four or more of you as aforesaid Shall in yt behalfe appointe you make En:
quiries upon y premisses& performe & fullfill y same in forme aforesaid Doeing therein that which to Justice appertai
neth according to y lawes orders & reasonable Customes of our said province saving to us y amerciaments & other things
thereof to us belonging And therefore wee Comand y Sheriffe of y said County of Somrsett by vertue of these presents that
if att ye Dayes & places aforesaid which you or any such four or more of yo as aforesaid Shall make knowne to him to give
his attendance on you and if need require to cause to Come before you or any Such four or more of you as aforesaid such & Soe
many good & lawfull men of yor County by whom y truth in y premisses may bee ye better knowne & Enquired of And further
you Shall Cause to bee brought before you att y Sd Daies & places the Writts precepts process & Indictmts of yor Cort & Jurisdiction
belonging that y same may bee inspected & by a Due Course Determined as aforesd Given att or Citty of St: Maries
under y great Seale of or Sd Provice of Maryland ye Second Day of March in y first year of or Dominion ovr or Said pro-
