58 January Annoq Domini 1671 in the presence of Elizabeth Hootton
the wife of William Hootton of the County of Sommersett in the
Province of Maryland ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The Deponent Saith that Elizabeth Hootton did Say that the Chilld
that she hath is James Gadds and that noe man Shall keepe them A
sunder, but that she will be with him by night or by day and that
James Gadd had given her A blankett and at Christmas Day at night
She mett James and both went downe to Cornelius Morrisses in the
night and that James and Joseph ffreeman and She was intend to goe
to the southward in A Sloope if there were noe more of them; it might
be that there might be another to goe with them and Said that she
was to goe downe the river in mr: Stevens Sloope on munday night
being the first day of January She washed James Clothes at Nicholas
Hudsons on Saturday last And this Deponent further saith that
Elizabeth Hootton Did say to this Deponent that Joseph ffreeman
woulld be ruled by the said Elizabeth Hootton or Elizabeth Hootton
and James Gad sooner then by his Brother and sister or any
others and this Deponent further saith that Elizabeth Hooton did
Desire this Deponent to aske James Gad whether or noe the said
James Gad woulld not owne the Chilld She had to be his And
whether or noe he Loved the said Elizabeth Hootton, and This
Depont: ffurther saith That Elizabeth Hootton did tell this
Deponent That She Loved James Gad above all other men
And that She woulld Live with him and either was with Chilld
or Shoulld be with Chilld by James Gad very suddaynely
and this Deponent further saith that she did heare Elizabeth
Hootton
