Senator Kennedy comes to us today victorious from two history-
making primaries in Wisconsin and West Virginia. Plus a number
of other primary victories, all of which have added to his stature as
a contender for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

We all realize that there is a tremendous fight ahead for Senator
Kennedy in the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles. We are aware,
also, that by Convention time he will have added the State of Mary-
land to his long list of primary victories. Our great Democratic
Party is fortunate this year in having so many capable and experi-
enced statesmen who aspire to the Presidential nomination. At the
Convention in July, I am convinced that we will select the best
candidate—a man who will lead us to a great Democratic victory in
November.

In the meantime, the immediate business at hand for us is the
Presidential primary which will be held in Maryland next Tuesday.
We are fortunate in this State in having on the ballot this year two
men—both United States Senators—Senator Kennedy of Massachusetts
and Senator Wayne Morse, of Oregon—whose records in the Senate
of the United States show clearly that they are men of outstanding
ability.

I have studied carefully the records of these two candidates and,
after much deliberation, I am convinced that Senator Kennedy is the
better qualified of the two. On die basis of his experience and skill
in statecraft and his ability to garner votes, as demonstrated in his
recent series of primary victories, I intend to cast my ballot next
Tuesday for Senator Kennedy. I urge my good friends in the Demo-
cratic Party to do the same. Maryland can and will give him a sub-
stantial majority.

It is a pleasure and an honor, ladies and gentlemen, to present to
you today a young man who personifies in every way the spirit of
young America—amiable, energetic and capable Senator John F.
Kennedy.

STATEMENT, APPEAL TO DEMOCRATIC PARTY WORKERS
