here in Maryland last year are conscious of the invaluable contri-
bution made by the women of Maryland. Without your assistance,
the cause of our great Democratic Party would be hopeless. We know
that we can continue to rely upon you next year, and all the years of
the future, just as we have in the past, and with your help we are sure
to attain the victory all of us so earnestly desire.
STATEMENT, WELCOMING SENATOR JOHN F. KENNEDY'S
FILING IN THE MARYLAND DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY
ANNAPOLIS
February 2, 1960
I have watched the career in public life of Senator John F. Kennedy,
of Massachusetts, with great interest and great admiration for the
past several years, and, like so many others, I have been deeply im-
pressed by his intelligence, his leadership and his ability to make
friends among the American people. From everything I have observed,
I am convinced that he is eminently qualified to be President of the
United States, I am sure, also, that he would be a strong candidate
for our Democratic Party in the election this year.
Senator Kennedy is filing today as a candidate for the Presidency
in our Maryland Preferential Primary, and, as I told him some
months ago, I am pleased to welcome him in this contest. In my
opinion, he will receive an overwhelming majority of the votes of
Maryland Democrats in the primary, and thus, he may be assured
of the support of the Maryland delegation in the Convention in Los
Angeles in accordance with our primary laws.
I shall be guided, of course, by the expression of the wishes of the
Democratic voters. It is indeed a pleasure to me to welcome Senator
Kennedy to Annapolis and to our State.
INTRODUCTION OF SENATOR JOHN F. KENNEDY
ANNAPOLIS
May 13, 1960
I am most happy indeed to greet here at the end of this beautiful
day, and particularly on the portico of our historic State House,
Senator John F. Kennedy, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
