[Locus Sigilli] MARYLAND ss. Charles Absolute Lord and Proprietary of
the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore etc. To
William Gumming of the City of Annapolis Send Greeting Know ye that
Whereas we do repose great trust and Confidence in your Cunning Skill and
knowledge in the Art and Mistery [328] of Clerkship We have therefore
thought fitt and by these presents Do Commissionate authorize and Appoint
you the sd William Gumming to be Clerk and keeper of the Records of the
High Court of Appeals and Errors before our Govr and Council of this our
Province And do hereby give and Grant unto you the sd William Gumming
all Such powers and authoritys to ask demand take and receive all and Singu-
lar Such lawfull and reasonable profits and perquisits As to the said office of
Clerk belongeth or appertaineth in as full and ample manner as any former
Clerk of the said Court hath or lawfully might Enjoy and excercise the Same
Wittness our trusty and well beloved John Hart Esquire our Captain Gen-
erall and Governour in Chief in and over this our Province of Maryland this
14th day of Aprill in the fifth year of our Dominion Annoque Domini 1720

And Thereupon the Honourable Co!o Thomas Addison administers to
him the Severall oaths appointed to be taken by act of Assembly As also the
following oath of Clerk for the due execution of his office as Clerk of this
Court Vizt. I William Gumming do Swear that I will well and truely execute
the office of Clerk of the high Court of Appeals in all things that appertains
to the Said office according to the best of my Skill and knowledge So help
me God.
[BT] Thomas Bordley v [DD] John Gresham Appeale In Complyance
with the order of last Court that the Complainant give Security in this Court
in double the Sume Decreed in the Chancery Court that he shall well and
[329] truely Comply with the Decree of this Court to be made in this Cause.
The Complainants bond given in last Court as orderd to be lodged among
the Court papers, And thereupon the Said Cause is continued till next Court;
[TM] John Hyde v James Crooke Appeale, [DD] Charles Carroll Esqr v
[TB] Thomas Wells Appeale, These above two causes are continued till
next Court.
Ordered the Assembly now Sitting that this Court be Adjourned till the
first Tuesday in May

Errors held in the Councill Chamber at the port of Annapolis on the fifth
