William Coursey pit agt Richard Bishop deft
Richard Bishop of Talbot County planter was attached to answer unto
William Coursey Gentn of A plea wherefore with force and Arms into all that
plantation dwelling house and other out houses orchards gardens and two
hundred and fifty Acres of land and other appurtenances thereunto belong-
ing Scituate lying and being on the South side of Chester river in Talbot
County calld Brampton and late in the possession of John Hawkins of the
aforesaid County Gentn which he the said John to him the said William
Coursey did demise for A certaine terme which is not yet past he did enter
and other harms to him did to the great damage of him the said William
Coursey and against the peace etc.
And Whereupon the said William Coursey by Robert Gouldesborough
his Attorney complaineth that Whereas the Aforesaid John Hawkins upon
the Eighth day of November Annoque Domini 1693 at Chester River in the
Aforesaid County did demise to the said William all that plantation dwelling
house and other out houses Orchards Gardens and two hundred and fifty
Acres of land and other appurtenances thereunto belonging Scituate lying
and being on the South side of Chester river in Talbott County Aforesaid
called Brampton To have and to hold to him the said William and his As-
signes from the said Eighth day of November aforesaid unto the end and
terme of Three Years from thence next following and fully to be compleat
and ended by Virtue of Which demise the said Wm Coursey into the planta-
tion and appurtenances aforesaid did enter and was thereof possessed And
the said William Coursey being thereof so possessed as Aforesaid the afore-
said Richard afterwards that is to say the Seaventeenth day of November
aforesaid by force and Arms into the plantation and appurtenances to the
same belonging aforesaid in forme aforesaid for the terme aforesaid he did
enter and him from his [191] farme aforesaid did Eject and other harmes to
him did doe to the great damage of him the said William Coursey and against
the peace etc. Whereupon he saith he is dampnified and hath loss to the
Vallue of Two thousand pounds of tobaccoe and thereupon he brings this
Suite etc.

Unless the Tennant in possession or he or they under whom he claimes
do at the next provinciall Court to be held at the City of St Marys the first
Tuesday of May next ensueing appear to to [sic] this declaration and make
him her or themselves defendants hereunto and according to rule of Court
confess the lease entry and Ejectment and insist on the title only the defend-
ant in this declaration will confess Judgment and possession will be deliv-
ered accordingly to the plantiff
And the said Richard Bishop by Samll Watkins his Attorney cometh and
defendeth the force and Injury when etc. and saith he is not Guilty of the
