11  CHARLES Lord BALTIMORE.
CHAP.
    II.
built, in order there to be sold, and from thence only shipped, &c. and all Persons shipping
or conveying any Tobacco, or other Goods, &c. out of this Province, by any Ways or Means
whatsoever, without first having landed and housed the same, in some Port of Town appointed, 
for Trade, and taking Certificate thereof from the Officer, shall forfeit 40 s. for every Hogshead,
&c.  (9.)  No Stilyards to be used in the said Towns for weighing Tobacco, &c. weighing above
100 lb, but the several County Courts to procure, at the County Charge, a Set of Scales
and Weights, &c. for each Town, to be kept by the Officer, whose Fee to be 1 d. Sterling, or
1 lb Tobacco for each Draught.  (10.)  Any of the Commissioners who should happen to live so
remote that they, or any five of them, could not conveniently meet at the said Towns, were
in such Case, impowered to nominate others, who should have the same Power.  (11.)  Pipe
Staves and Lumber, not to be housed in the Town-Houses as Tobaccoes, &c. but only unladen
and landed, and Certificate thereof given, as aforesaid.  (12.)  All Lots, not taken up within five
Years, from the Commencement of the Act of 1683, shall revert to the Owners of the Land, &c.
but shall, notwithstanding, be deemed Town Lands, and enjoy the same Privileges with other
Lots, &c.  Provided nevertheless, that such Owners of Un-taken-up Lots, at any Time, within
five Years, after the Expiration of the above mentioned five Years, on Tender of double the 
Value of the first Purchase of a Lot in such Town, and the Charges of the first Taking-up of
the same, shall accept the same in full Satisfaction for such Lot, and shall thereupon, at the
Charges of such Taker-up, make good and sufficient Assurance to him and his Heirs.  And upon
Refusal thereof, the person so tendering, and his Heirs, shall from thenceforth be invested,
&c. in the same Lot, as if he had taken up in due Time:  Such Taker-up still following the Directions
in building, or otherwise, of this and the former Acts.  (13.)  The several Towns hereafter
mentioned, and by the former Acts made Places, &c. for Trade, being now by Experience
found no Ways fitting or convenient, viz.
    Somerset County,     The Town on Morgan's Land, formerly called Barrow's, towards
                                               the Head of Pocomoke
    Dorchester County,  On Worgan's land, near the Head of Fishing Creek, in Little Choptank.
    Baltimore County,    In Middle River, on the Land of Cornwallis, or Leakins.
    Charles County,        On Stump-Neck, near Chingemixen, on the Lands of the late Mr.
                                               Reddish,
are hereby declared to be annulled and untowned, and for ever after to be and remain to the former
respective Owners, &c.  (14.)  The two former Acts, (in all Points not altered by the present
Act) to remain in full Force.  (15.)  All Tobaccoes, and other Commodities of this Province,
brought to the several Ports, &c. for Sale or Exportation, to be weighed by the Town
Scales only, and not otherwise, on Penalty of 10 s. per Hogshead, &c.

An Act for reviving the Temporary Laws of this Province.  Lib. WH. fol. 288.
    EXP.
    To be in Force 3 Years, or to the End of the next Assembly.  By this Act were revived and
continued the following Laws, viz. 1661, ch. 2, 3, and 5.  1663-4, ch. 1 and 2.  1666, ch. 1
and 4.  1669, ch. 2, 3, and 71671, ch. 4, 7, 8, 9, 23, 25, and 30.  1674, ch. 3, 4, 5, 7, 
9, 13, and 26.  1678, ch. 5, 7, 8, 10, and 11.  1681, ch. 1, 2, 3, 5, and 14.  1682, ch. 1,
2, and 3.  1683, ch. 2 and 3.  And 1684, ch. 3.
CHAP. IV.
Ditto. An Act for the Advancement of Coins.  Lib. WH. fol. 292.  EXP.
    To endure 3 Years, or to the End of the next General Assembly.  N.B. This Act sets forth
in the Preamble, the great Want of ready Money, whereby the Trade of the Province, and
Settlement of Handicrafts and Tradesmen therein was much impeded, and enacts (1.)  That New-England
Shillings and Sixpences, shall pass as sterling, (viz. at the Advance of 3 d. in each Shilling)
French Crowns, Pieces of Eight, and Rix-Dollars, to pass as 6 s. Ducatoons at 7 s. 6 d.
and all other Coins of Silver or Gold, foreign or not foreign (except base Coin) to be taken and
received with the Advance of 3 d. Sterling, in the Value of 12 d. Sterling.  (2.)  All such Coins
so advanced, to be received in all payments contracted for in ready Money, or the Persons refusing 
so to accept thereof, to lose such Debt, never to be recovered in any Court, &c.  (3.)  Persons
exporting such Coins so advanced, to forfeit the same, Half to his Lordship, and Half to
the Informer.  (4.)  This Act not to affect his Lordship's Rents, &c. nor extend to protested
Bills of Exchange.  (5.)  Officers Fees, and Ordinary Keepers Accommodations, to be payable
in such Coin so advanced, at the Rate of 6 s. for every 100 lb Tobacco, if tendered in ready
Money; otherwise to be paid in Tobacco, as usual before this Act, &c.  A new Act, 1692,
ch. 44.
