City of Annapolis, the 7th Day of July,
in the 26th

Passed 26th
July 1740. |
An Act for raising and issuing Money, for maintaining his Majesty's
Forces, to be
raised in this Province; and for transporting them to
the Place of Rendezvous
in the West-Indies. Lib. B.L.C.

N.B. By this Act, a Sum not
exceeding £.5000 was Granted for the buying, finding, and
providing Victuals, Transports, and other Necessaries, for the 500 Men
to be raised in this Province,
for his Majesty's Service, for the Expedition against
the Territories of the Catholic King
in the West-Indies: For the Inlisting of which, Provision
had been made by an Act passed the
preceding Session, viz. 1740, ch. 1. The Honble
Benjamin Tasker, Esq; Col. King, and Doctor
Carroll, were appointed Agents for carrying this Act into Execution,
and impowered to receive
the said Sum out of the Loan Office, &c. and for the Replacing
and Repayment of the same
into the Office, one Moiety of all the Duties on Rum, Spirits, Wine and
Brandy, Irish Servants
and Negroes imported, (which were by any former Acts applied for defraying
the Public
Charge) was appropriated, together with a Duty upon Ordinary Licences,
until the said Sum
of £. 5000, &c. should be fully paid and replaced, &c.
