Ordered that the western Shore Treasurer pay to Alien Quynn Eighty one pounds, three
Shillings and three pence due him per Account passed by the Deputy Auditor.
The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

Friday 16th. October 1789

Saturday 17th. October 1789

The Council met.

Present the Hon'ble. James Brice

John Kilty Esquires.

Valentine Murrain, and James Howard of Saint Marys County by their Petitions to the
Board set forth that Valentine Murrain has been confined in the Goal of the Said County ten
Months, and that James Howard has been confined in the Said Goal Nine Months, for fines of
eighteen pounds, each imposed on them by the Court, for Selling Spiritous liquors without
licence, that from their inability to pay the said fines they must remain in Prison, unless the
Clemency of the Government is extended to them, that they have each a wife and three
Small Children who are now suffering by their Confinement, and that they committed
the offence through ignorance and not design: They therefore pray a Remission of the said
fines, And four of the Justices of the said County having certified their belief of the facts Stated
in their Petitions—The Board in Consideration thereof do hereby order and direct the Said
fines of Eighteen pounds imposed on each of the said [p. 107] Valentine Murrain and
James Howard to be remitted.
