Friday 23d. October 1789

The Council met.

In Council October 23d. 1789

William King of Baltimore County by his Petition to the Board, Sets forth that he became
bound in a Recognizance of fifty pounds for the appearance of Elizabeth King who was presented
for receiving a Bee hive knowing it to be stolen, that the said Elizabeth King has since
absconded and thereby deprived the said William King of the power of procuring her appear-
ance, wherefore the said Recognizance hath been forfeited in Baltimore County Court at Septem-
ber term 1786, as appears by a transcript accompanying the said Petition, And four of the
Justices, together with several Inhabitants of the Said County having certified [p. 108]
that the Said Elizabeth King has absconded from the State and that they believe the Petitioner
William King unable to bear the said forfeiture, and it being also represented that he has eight
Children to Support and most of them young: The Board do therefore order that of the said
forfeiture of fifty pounds, Forty five pounds be remitted.

In Council October 23d. 1789

William Matthews of Charles County by his Petition to the Board Sets forth that he was
fined by the County Court of the said County at September term 1789 the sum of six pounds
Current Money for retailing liquor without licence, that he is a Cripple, in low Circumstances,
and unable to pay the fine without being greatly distressed, he therefore prays a Remission, and
three of the Justices, together with several respectable Inhabitants of the said County having
recommended him to Mercy and favor. The Board in consideration of his low Circumstances
and the Recommendation aforesaid do order and direct that of the said fine of six pounds, Four
pounds be remitted.
