A Letter was this Day received from the Honorable Robert Hanson Harrison Esquire,
declining to accept the appointment of Chancellor of this State.
The Council adjourned till 4 o'clock.

4 o'clock P. M.

The Council met.

Present as before.

The Board proceeded to the appointment of a Chancellor, when the Honorable Alexander
Contee Hanson Esquire was elected, who qualified before the Governor by taking the Several
Oaths prescribed by the Constitution and Form of Government, and Laws of this State; and
Subscribing a Declaration of his Belief in the Christian Religion, and the Great Seal of the
State was thereupon delivered to him by the Governor in Council.

The Council adjourned 'till Monday morning.

[p. 104] Monday 5th. October 1789

The Council met.

Present as on Saturday.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to William Hall Twenty nine pounds,
eighteen Shillings Specie agreeably to the "Act to adjust the debts due from this State" per
Account examined and passed by the Auditor, due the 1st. September 1787.

That the Said Treasurer pay to Henry Woodcock, Ten pounds, ten Shillings due him for
teaching Miss Grason per Account passed by the Auditor.

George Salmon of Baltimore County is appointed one of the Judges of the Court of Oyer
and Terminer for the said County, and Commission issued to Samuel Chase, John Moale,
Otho Holland Williams, Lyde Goodwin and George Salmon, Judges of the Court of Oyer and
Terminer and Goal delivery for Baltimore County.

The Council proceeded to the appointment of a Judge of the General Court in the room of
the Honorable Alexander Contee Hanson, whose Seat became vacated by his acceptance of the
Office of Chancellor, when Jeremiah Townley Chase Esquire was elected, and a Commission
issued to Robert Hanson Harrison, Robert Goldsborough and Jeremiah Townley Chase,
Judges of the General Court of this State.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Valentine Shockey Thirteen pounds,
eighteen Shillings and eight pence specie agreeably to the "Act to adjust the Debts due from
this State" per Account passed by the Deputy Auditor, due the 1st. September 1787.

In Council October 5th. 1789

Resolved that the Agents sell as speedily as may be, all the personal property which they
or either of them may have purchased, and now on hand, either for Specie or Certificates as they
may judge proper, the real property or any part thereof to be sold for specie only and not to be
disposed of for less than was given by the Agent or Agents
