In Council May 24th. 1792

Jesse Lock of Saint Marys County by his Petition sets forth that he recognized for the
appearance of a certain Matthew Burroughs at the Court of the said County to answer a present-
ment for an Assault and Battery, that the said Matthew Burroughs was prevented from attend-
ing by sickness whereupon the recognizance of ten pounds became forfeited, which appears by
a transcript from the Clerk of the said Court, and four of the Justices having certified that they
believe the facts to be truly stated by the Petitioner who prays relief: The Board do order and
direct that five pounds thereof be remitted.

[p. 84] In Council May 24. 1792

Whereas it appears by a Certificate from the Clerk of Baltimore County Court of Oyer
and Terminer and Goal delivery that William Bagford of said County was presented for
selling liquors without licence and at March term last was fined by the Court aforesaid the
quantity of Six hundred pounds of Tobacco, and the Sum of One pound, ten shillings Current
Money for said Offence. And Whereas the said William Bagford has presented a Petition
setting forth that being in Circumstances unable to obtain a licence and having a numerous
family to maintain solely by his labour he was induced thereto as a mean of support, that he is
entirely unable to pay the fines imposed having a distressed and unhealthy family, whose
necessities call for every thing he can earn. And three of the Justices of the said Court having
certified their belief that the Petitioner is in such Circumstances as to render him unable to pay
fines aforesaid without greatly distressing a helpless family, and therefore recommend him as a
proper Object of Compassion, The Board in Consideration of the poverty of the Petitioner do
direct that the said fines be remitted upon all costs being paid.

The Auditor is requested to issue a Certificate for the Depreciation of pay to John Gill
late a Soldier in the third Maryland Regiment, and deliver the same to the Treasurer of the
western shore who is hereby ordered to pay it over to the said John Gill.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Mrs Ann Levacher Thirty pounds for
Six Months half pay due her the 1st instant,

That the said Treasurer pay to John Davidson Esq'r. Thirty seven pounds, ten shillings
for one quarter's salary as a member of the Council.
