of the Peace for Anne Arundel County by taking the several Oaths
required by the Constitution and form of Government and Laws of
this State, and by making and subscribing a Declaration of their
belief in the Christian Religion. Certificate thereof produced and filed.

Friday 21st. November 1788

The Hon'ble. James Brice and

John Davidson Esquires attended.

John Kilty Esquire attended and qualified before Alien
Quynn Esquire a Justice of the Peace for Anne Arundel County,
by taking the several Oaths required by the Constitution and form of
Government and Laws of this State, and by making and subscribing
a Declaration of his belief in the Christian Religion and Certificate
thereof produced and filed.

Mr. Thomas Johnson junior is appointed Clerk of the Council who
qualified as such before the honorable James Brice Esqr. Alderman
of the City of Annapolis and Certificate thereof produced and filed.

Mr. Jubb Fowler appointed Messenger to the Council.

Ordered that the Western Shore Treasurer pay to Peter Engels
sixty two pounds ten shillings for one half year's Salary as Armourer
at Frederick Town due the 6th. instant.

[p 2] Thomas Johnson Esquire, having declined to accept the ap-
pointment of Governor of this State, The General Assembly pro-
ceeded to the choice of a Governor in his room when John Eager
Howard Esquire was elected.

The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

Saturday 22d. November 1788

The Council met.
