In Council July 29th. 1788
Edward Flannagan of Harford County by his Petition to the
Board sets forth that being an innkeeper in the said County he applied
for licence as usual for the year seventeen hundred and eighty five,
but being just then called elsewhere on urgent business he left the
place, on a promise from the Clerk of the said County that the licence
should be made out in his absence, which however the said Clerk
omitted to do, and the Petitioner was fined on two several Present-
ments six hundred weight of Tobacco each for selling spiritous
liquors contrary to Law, of which he prays a Remission. The facts
set forth are certified to be truly stated by four of the Justices of the
aforesaid County, and transcripts of the Proceedings appear with
the Petition, whereupon the Board being of Opinion that the Peti-
tioner did not wilfully offend against the Law, do direct that the
above fines of six hundred pounds of Tobacco each, be and they are
hereby remitted.

[p 340] In Council July 29th. 1788
James Cratin of Harford County presents a Petition to the Board,
accompanied by two transcripts from the proceedings of the Court
of the aforesaid County, by which it appears that a certain Patrick
McGrill was in August seventeen hundred and eighty six twice pre-
sented by the Grand Jury for beating and otherwise abusing Margaret
Fosset, and that the Petitioner entered into two Recognizances of
ten pounds current Money, each for the appearance of the said
McGrill at the then ensuing November Court. The Petitioner alleges
that the Recognizances having been respited to November Court
seventeen hundred and eighty seven he then produced the said
McGrill, but that his recognizances were previously forfeited. The
Board in consideration of the Petitioners having brought the said
McGrill to Court, which fact is established by the Signature of several
