In Council 2d. July 1788
Catherine Stewart of Baltimore County sets forth by her Petition
that early in the year 1786 she came as a Widow into this County
with four Small Children and took a House for the purpose of retail-
ing Liquors but could not immediately obtain Licence, that soon
after, she had occasion to go to Virginia to enquire after the effects
of her husband who was killed in the year 1780 by a party of
Refugees, that in her absence her family was [p 331] left
in the care of a woman friend and that in the same interval she was
presented to Baltimore County Criminal Court for selling liquors
contrary to Law and fined six hundred weight of Tobacco and thirty
shillings Current Money of which on Account of her helpless situation
she prays to be relieved. The Board in consideration of the facts
recited which are certified by five Justices of the aforesaid County,
who also recommend the Petitioner as an object of clemency, Do
hereby order and direct that the above fines of six hundred pounds
of Tobacco and thirty shillings current Money be and they are hereby
remitted.

The Petition of James Young of Baltimore Town, fined by Balti-
more County Criminal Court in February last on a Presentment for
selling liquors without Licence 600 lb. Tobacco and 30 sh. current
Money rejected.
The Petition of Hugh Sidwell of Caecil County for a Remission of
a forfeited Recognizance of Ten pounds at March Court 1786, enter'd
into and forfeited by a certain James Dogherty late of said County an
Evidence against a certain John Sterratt—unanimously rejected.
The Council adjourned 'till Friday next.
