A Petition from Richard Flemming of the City of Annapolis was
laid before the Board, setting forth, that in the year 1783, he became
Security in the Sum of Twenty pounds for Daniel Munroe's keeping
the Peace, and in the Same Year the said Daniel Munroe was
prosecuted, tried, and found guilty of breaking the Peace, by assault-
ing William Campbell, whereby the Recognizance of the Petitioner
became forfeited, and Execution has since issued and the said Peti-
tioner answerable for the forfeiture, that he was deceived by the
Cunning and misrepresentations of the said Daniel Munroe, and
thereby unwarily induced to become his Security, that the said
Flemming has a large Family to support and maintain from his own
Labour, and if not relieved, will be compelled to sell his property
greatly under its value to discharge the said Forfeiture, praying that
the Board would take his Case into Consideration, and remit the
forfeiture, or such part thereof as might be thought proper, and
three of the Justices having recommended the Petitioner to this
Board, they are of Opinion that five pounds part of the said twenty
pounds, be remitted, and do order and direct a Remission of the
said five pounds accordingly.
