County Courts of this Province which was Read the first and
Second time by especial Order and will pass
M.r Hanson brings in and delivers to M.r Speaker a Bill Entituled
an Act for raising 4.d Sterling p hogshead on all Tob.o exported
out of this Province for the Support of an Agent at London for
the Service of this Province which was read the first and Second
time by an especial Order and will Pass
On Motion M.r Chaille hath leave of Absence
The House Adjourns till the morrow morning at 8 of the Clock

Friday 23.d May 1766.
The House met.
All Present as Yesterday Except M.r Sothoron and M.r Chaille
On Motion M:r Selby M.r Harris and M.r Allen have leave of
Absence

the Bill Entituled an Act for Issuing Writs of Replevin out of
the County Courts of this Province and the Bill Entituled an Act
for raising 4.d Sterling Per Hogshead on all Tobacco &c for the
Support of an Agent at London for the Service of this Province
were sent to the Upper House by M.r Grahame and M.r Hanson
The following Message Viz:t
By the Lower House of Assembly May 22.d 1766

May it Please your Honours
This House Agrees to your Honours Proposed Amendment of
the Bill Entituled an Act for the relief of Certain Languishing Pris-
oners in the several Goals therein mentioned so far as to insert
the Names of Thomas Hicks Newton Richard Freeman and Wil-
liam Morgan of Calvert County and Nathan Joyce and Shepherd
Grimes of Ann Arundel County and have Amended the Bill Ac-
cordingly, But as to Henry Heinzman John Berry and John Davis
of Frederick County and George Bell of Prince Georges County
which should be Baltimore County, We cannot concede to the
Amendments Proposed as we are not Apprized of any Circum-
stances to Merit the Interposition of the Legislature in favour of
those Petitioners on the Contrary we are informed that the Prin-
cipal Creditor at whose Instance Henry Heinzman is now detained
hath Offered to take his Bond for his Claim and Discharge him
from Goal, Which Heinzman hath refused That John Berry is now
and for some time Past hath been discharged out of Prison and
Suffered to go at Large. That John Davis hath been Guilty of a
Riot in the Goal and is Detained on that Account as well as for
Debt and that George Bell is Strongly Suspected of having Acted
fraudulently towards his Creditors and no Recommendation of the
